Multicultural Indigenous Academy Dress Code

You will be held to these standards
Because of the importance of being “dressed for success”, Multicultural Indigenous Academy staff and students are expected to be dressed and groomed in accordance with acceptable standards of cleanliness, good taste, and appropriateness. Staff/students are expected to arrive at school clean and wearing clothing that are clean and in good repair. The following dress code standards have been set to discourage clothing that may be a distraction to the learning environment and possible safety of students.
- No staff/student will wear hats, bandanas, headbands or any type of head covering wear.
- Staff/students will not wear shirt or tops that display any visible cleavage.
- Pants must be worn at the waist and be size-appropriate, so as not to expose undergarments. Pants must be without sag or looseness. Pants must be able to hold themselves up at the waist. If not, a belt will be required. Any pants that can not hold themselves up at the waist will not be permitted.
- All shirts and dresses must have straps of at least 2 inches in width, and undergarment straps should not be visible. Tube tops and shirts with spaghetti straps are not acceptable. See-thru or fish net shirts are not permitted.
- Staff/students may wear shorts, dresses, and skirts provided those garments reach below the end of the fingertips, when arms are straight to the sides, fingers extended fully and standing fully upright.
- Undergarments will be worn, and covered at all times. No staff/students shall dress in such a way that his/her underwear is partially or totally exposed. The waist and bottom portion of undergarments will not be exposed at any time. This includes NO A-Shirts. See attached photo.
- Shirts, blouses, dresses, or skirts that expose the areas of the stomach, side, back, or cleavage are not permitted.
- No staff/student will wear any jewelry, clothing or carry backpacks, or any other items which display or suggest alcohol, drugs, tobacco, weaponry, profanity, vulgarity, sexual comments or innuendo, scatological humor or gang affiliation.
- No staff/student will wear jewelry, clothing or carry backpacks or any other items that display or suggest messages degrading to a particular race, religion, culture, or gender, or related to sexual orientation.
- No staff/student will wear clothes with holes above the knees, in the crotch, or under or over the buttocks.
- Footwear must be worn at all times, inside and outside of the classroom. No flip flops are permitted.
- Students in violation of the Multicultural Indigenous Academy dress code will be required to change into clean loaner clothing for the remainder of the day. Students may pick up clothes at the end of the school day. If students refused to wear loaner cloths, he or she will be sent home to change. Any class time missed will be an unexcused absence.
- The Administration reserves the right of judgment in all dress code questions.
- No staff/student will wear sunglasses (unless a doctor’s note is provided)
- No staff/student will wear bedroom Slippers or Pajamas of any type (including flannel pants w/drawstring)
- No staff/student will wear bare midriff outfits
- No staff/student will wear overalls
- No staff/student will wear short shorts - must be just below finger tips when standing upright with arms and fingers fully extended
- No staff/student will wear pants or shirts revealing underclothes
- No staff/student will wear halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps or backless dresses without an over blouse
- No staff/student will wear chains on clothing
Electronic Devices – Bring at your own risk!
- Cell Phones, IPODS, MP3 players Boom Boxes, and all other electronic devices are not permitted to be turned on, or used from 9:00 am until 3:25 pm (students may use them during lunch and between classes)
- Headphones are not to be visible during this same time period
- MIA will not be responsibly in any way for the loss or damage of your personal property. So keep it put away or leave it at home
