Multicultural Indigenous Academy builds community through our cultural and community celebrations. We are always looking for positive ways to include celebration into our daily lives and over the past 6 years MIA has hosted three annual events; Fall Harvest Fest called Megwetch Mahnomin, Days of the Dead, and Kwanzaa. We invite all of you to come celebrate with us.
Kwanzaa: Is presented by the students of our African Heritage Circle. Because Kwanzaa is traditionally celebrated December 26 to January 1 and MIA is not in session at that time, we will be hosting a celebration the week before Winter Break starts. This celebration includes a week of events during the school day, and one open celebration with music, student work samples, presentation, and a feast.
Dias de los Muertos / Days of the Dead: Hosted by our Chicano/Latino and Indigenous of the Americas Circle. This celebration offers a healthy, educational, and personal look at how death is apart of life and how cultures around the world honor the passing of our loved ones. This celebration is festive and includes ofrendas, aztec dancers, and a feast.
Megwetch Mahnomin: Is hosted by our Native American Heritage Circle and Indigenous of the
Americas Circle. This celebration focuses on how people around the world celebrate the harvesting of our foods, our connection to the food cycle and how food impact us all. This celebration include a Native American drum group, round dance, student work samples, and a feast.
DATES for all event: TBA We will post dates as soon as students and staff together agree on this years events.
